Mali offers opportunities in a wide range of areas:
MINING & HYDROCARBONS:

Mali boasts many mineral resources:

  • GOLD:

Mali is the 3rd largest gold producer in Africa. Gold is the major export earner for Mali. Currently, the major mining area are in Southern and Western Mali. In addition to these areas, there are many other proven reserves of gold throughout Mali.

  • OTHER MINERALS:

DIAMONDS: Indications in Kenieba (Western Mali) and Adrar des Iforas (Nothern Mali). Diamonds are recovered from artisanal gold miners in the Kéniéba area, but no commercial production has occurred to date.
IRON ORE: Deposits at Diamou, Djidian and Balé, South of Kita in Kayes region (Western Mali), with reserves estimated at 6 billion tons of ore.
BAUXITE: Deposits in Kayes region (Western Mali) and West of Bamako, with reserves estimated at 40 million tons of ore.
MANGANESE: Deposits in Tassiga, Tondibi, Agaula and Ofalikin (South West) and East of Ansongo (Gao region), with reserves estimated at 100 million tons of ore.
URANIUM: Occurences at Faléa and Loulo, in the Kayes region (Western Mali), with reserves estimated at 5000 tons of ore of U306 and in Samit (North East of Gao), with reserves estimated at 200 tons of U302 at 0,085%.
PHOSPHATES: Deposits in Timelsi valley, North of Bourem in the Gao region, with the largest deposit at Tamaguilelt, estimated at 20 million tons.
LIMESTONE: Reserves estimated at 40 million tons in Bafoulabé (Western Mali) and Hombori (Mopti area).
OIL SHALE: Reserves estimated at 10 billion tons.
LIGNITE: Found in the region of Gao (Northern Mali).
GYPSUM: Reserves estimated at 405 000 tons.
LIME: Deposits and indications concentrated mainly in Western Mali (Kayes region) and Central Mali at Goundam and Hombori (Timbuktu and Mopti region) and around Koulikoro, with estimated reserves at 122 million tons.
MARBLE: Marble deposits are located in the Kayes region (Bafoulabé, Sélinkegni and Madibaya), estimated at 60 million tons.
LEAD ZINC: Indications in North East of Bougouni (Sikasso region) and at Fafa, South East of Ansongo (Gao region) and the tessalit deposit (Kidal region), estimated at 1.7 million tons of ore.
ROCKSALT: Rocksalt was the main commodity of the trans-Saharan trade from the 8th Century onward. Currently, it is produced mainly in the salt Taoudéni mines. Reserves are estimated at 53 million tons.

HYDROCARBONS: Exploration for oil and gas has been mainly carried out in the Taoudéni and the Gao graben, Rift of Nara, Basin of Tamesna (Kidal), Basin of Lullemendens (Kidal).
